Toronto police announce new details in Dinarda Street murder investigation

TORONTO – Toronto police revealed new details of the investigation into the murder of Leonard Charles Fullerton Friday, but said it remains unclear who is responsible for the murder or why it happened.

“This was a public execution of a defenseless and unarmed man,” said lead investigator Det. Sgt. Frank Skubic during a press conference on Friday.

Twenty-six-year-old Fullerton was shot during an argument with a male suspect on Tuesday afternoon on Dinarda Street near Weston Road. According to police, the subject of the argument has yet to be determined.

Police believe that at some point Fullerton disengaged from the argument and begin to walk away from the suspect when the suspect revealed a gun.

Despite earlier reports that Fullerton was shot in the head, an autopsy revealed that the cause of death was a perforated shot to the torso.

Skubic said that Fullerton was in possession of drugs and a sum of cash at the time of his death and noted that as part of the investigation they will look into Fullerton’s lifestyle.

“Part of our investigation is to investigate what Mr. Fullerton was involved in at the time and if the substances he was in possession of at the time had to do with his death. The fact that he was in possession leads me to suspect that he may have been dealing drugs in that area,” said Skubic.

According to Skubic, within an hour of the murder a telephone tip came in that the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle described as a silver Acura; however, they have received multiple vehicle descriptions all describing a small silver car, last seen travelling southbound on Weston Road.

A vehicle of interest was also picked up from a dashboard camera on a Toronto police car responding to the emergency call. While they do not know if this car is involved in the incident, police have asked the driver of the vehicle to come forward.

The suspect is described as black with a light complexion, six-feet tall with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
