The chief of the Onion lake Cree Nation has pleaded guilty to one count of assault, but won’t receive jail time.
Wallace Fox entered the plea and was sentenced Thursday in a Lloydminster courtroom. He was given twelve months conditional discharge.

He won’t be punished as long as he complies with a set of conditions. If Fox complies, the charge effectively goes away after twelve months.
The chief initially faced four charges stemming from an incident in May 2015 that police say happened at a home in his community.
The other three charges – assault, possessing a knife for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats – were withdrawn.
