Saskatoon’s annual fall street sweeping program is scheduled to start Monday, Oct. 17.

The 10-day sweep is designed to remove foliage on roadways in neighbourhoods that have the highest risk for heavy leaves and debris to reduce the potential for spring flooding.

Street sweeping will occur in Buena Vista, Caswell Hill, City Park, Holiday Park, King George, North Park, Nutana, Riversdale, Varsity View and Westmount.

The program is weather dependent and may not occur if there is sustained sub-zero temperatures.

The City of Saskatoon is also asking that homeowners refrain from pushing leaves from yards onto streets. Bylaws prohibit doing this and violators may receive a warning or a fine.

The storm water utility funds the $300,000 program to reduce the leaves and debris that impede drainage and cause flooding around catch basins.
