A new pilot project in metro Moncton aims to streamline the process in which agencies provide housing for the homeless.
HART, or, the Housing Placement Review Team, will band seven Moncton agencies together for one year to help the process of finding housing for those most in need.
Agencies like Harvest house, the House of Nazareth, the YMCA, YWCA, AIDS Moncton, the John Howard Society and the Salvus Clinic, along with the Greater Moncton Homelessness Steering Committee, will meet bi-weekly to find housing for any of their clients. The team and all agencies will use the same questionnaire and evaluation tools when they meet a client who needs housing.
One of the goals for HART is to prevent an individual from making visits to multiple agencies in an attempt to find the right one. The new approach also sets up a process that will be able to respond quickly if more housing units are made available. The ultimate goal is to have every unit available filled.
