Convicted murderer recaptured after escape from Saskatchewan Penitentiary

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) said a convicted murderer is back in custody.

Prince Albert RCMP apprehended Roger Gillet, who escaped from Saskatchewan Penitentiary, at around 6:45 a.m. CT on Tuesday.

He had been unlawfully at large since the morning of Sept. 30. Staff members discovered the 64-year-old man was not accounted for during a count in the minimum-security unit in Prince Albert.

Gillet is currently serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder, forcible confinement, robbery, prison breach and escaping lawful custody.

CSC said it is investigating the escape.
