Okanagan College invited aboriginal students and members of the community to its Kelowna campus Thursday to celebrate its Youth Exhibition Powwow.

The free event is aimed at educating the public on aboriginal culture and to celebrate diversity.

Coordinator of Aboriginal services for the college, Anthony Isaac adds that the event showcases post-secondary education opportunities.

“We come together here at these powwows to celebrate, to pray, to dance around, to socialize; and they’re gatherings,”  said Isaac.   “We’ve got a good community.  It’s a way to honour our students.”

Richard Jackson heads the touring powwow, which features aboriginal students from around the southern interior.
