MJHL’s Winnipeg Blues promote Billy Keane to head coach

WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Winnipeg Blues named Billy Keane their new head coach on Tuesday.

Keane received the promotion after serving as the Blues assistant coach for the past six seasons. Keane replaces Don MacGillivray who was recently named an assistant coach for the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings.

It’s the second time Keane’s been the head coach of the franchise after serving as the Winnipeg South Blues bench boss for two seasons from 2002-2004. He was also the head coach of the MJHL’s Winnipeg Saints for the 2000-2001 season. Keane was also an assistant coach for the Manitoba Bisons from 1990-1999 and again from 2007-2009.

Keane’s son, Geordie, was recently named the Blues team captain after three seasons with the club.
