Former Sask. high school basketball coach charged with sexual exploitation

A former Regina high school basketball coach has been charged with sexual exploitation in connection with an alleged relationship with a woman who was 17 years old at the time.

According to Regina police, on July 1, officers received information from a woman who said she was allegedly involved in a sexual relationship with a high school basketball coach between September 2012 and March 2013. Police say the woman said the man was older than her and “held a position of trust and authority.”

The man was not a teacher at the school, police say.

Regina police arrested Grant Edworthy, 28 on Aug. 17.

Edworthy has been charged with sexual exploitation. He was released and is scheduled to appear in provincial court at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4.

On the Basketball Saskatchewan website, Edworthy was listed as a coach for the 2011 U15 Boys Provincial Team.
