Police are investigating what is being described as an attempted murder, after a 25-year-old man was shot overnight in downtown Montreal.
Police patrolling the downtown core heard gunshots ring out at around 2:35 a.m. Saturday near the corner of Ste-Catherine and Drummond streets.
When officers arrived at the scene they discovered a 25-year-old man with injuries to his upper body.
“He was struck at least once,” Jean-Pierre Brabant, from the Montreal police department, said.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition but his status has since been upgraded to stable.
“The hospital confirmed that his life is no longer in danger,” Brabant said.
Ste-Catherine Street remains closed between Stanley and Drummond streets as police investigate.
Brabant said that shell casings were recovered on Ste-Catherine Street and that investigators will be reviewing surveillance camera footage.
Police have described the incident as an attempted murder.
No arrests have been made.
