Hollywood actor Harrison Ford took a teenage girl flying in his plane in Wisconsin on Thursday to promote flying among young people.
The “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” star was accompanied by 16-year-old Jodie Gawthrop when he flew his DeHavilland Beaver on Thursday at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual convention in Wisconsin.
Jodie Gawthrop of Westchester, Illinois, won the flight in a national contest though the association’s Young Eagle program, which uses volunteer pilots to introduce children to flying.

Ford took her flying to help celebrate the program reaching 2 million members. Ford was the program’s chairman from 2004 to 2009.
Ford told reporters that flying with Gawthrop was “really, really fun” and he’ll remember the flight for a long time.
He said Gawthrop asked if celebrities use checklists. He said he told her celebrities “absolutely” need checklists.
Gawthrop has been volunteering for the Civil Air Patrol, where among other things she directs planes at the plane convention.
She has 10 flight hours under her belt through the Civil Air Patrol and plans to take private lessons in the future, with her eye on joining the Air Force one day.
