Family of homicide victim Tammy Boratynec plead for information from public

Family and friends of a woman killed in Saint John earlier this month are picking up their pieces in the wake of the tragic and shocking death.

Fourty-three-year-old Tammy Boratynec was found dead in the backyard of her Melrose Street apartment in east Saint John July 17.

Tammy’s daughter, Amanda lives in Fredericton and is getting help from friends as she tries to cope with her tragic loss.

“Tammy didn’t deserve this,” said Amanda’s close friend, Jessica Lirette. “Amanda doesn’t deserve to be burying her mother.”

Police have deemed her death a homicide, but no other information has been made public and there is no suspect in custody.

Amanda has been travelling back and forth to Saint John, gathering her mother’s belongings. She says she’s holding things together as she keeps the many memories of her mother, who she says was a lover of life, at the front of her mind.

“Her favourite, absolute favourite past time, the thing that brought us together really and made our relationship great was camping and fishing,” Amanda said. “We are two fish connoisseurs.”

A priority for her now is trying to find out what happened to her mother. She and her friends are pleading to the public for any information at all they can pass on to police.

“Anybody who has maybe spoken to her and even the whole entire month of July and June, you know on the phone, through social media, anything.” Amanda said.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s something you heard in passing. If it was a name that was associated with Tammy Boratynec, it might be useful,” Lirette added.

Meanwhile, the family is dealing with the financial burden of transporting Boratynec’s body back to Alberta, where she is from.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for anyone willing and able to assist.

Boratynec’s funeral is expected to be held in Alberta in August. A celebration of her life will be held in Fredericton sometime within the next few weeks.
