Halifax Regional Municipality welcomes new chief administrative officer

The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is welcoming a new chief administrative officer (CAO) — Jacques Dubé.

In a release sent out Wednesday, Mayor Mike Savage welcomed the new CAO, saying he hopes Dubé will help to “strengthen our communities and drive economic growth for the Halifax region.”

Dubé comes to the HRM as the municipality continues to struggle through its ongoing identity crisis amidst a re-branding attempt by council.

The city began the process of re-branding from Halifax Regional Municipality to “Halifax” two years ago.

Since then, there have been mixed reviews of the campaign, with many claiming the new title strips the personality and uniqueness from the different communities within the municipality.

The new logo has also been a sore spot, and it’s slated to once again go before council for potential changes.

Most recently, Dubé was the manager of the City of Moncton — he resigned on Tuesday, July 26.

Dubé , who sees his new opportunity with the HRM as an opportunity to “make a difference through diverse ideas and inclusive actions” will start his new position on Sept. 12.
