A Summerland man who pleaded guilty to phoning in a bomb threat on a WestJet flight from Kelowna to Calgary on Oct. 25, 2014, has yet to learn his fate.
The threat caused the Kelowna International Airport to enact its emergency procedures.
As the situation was unfolding, police arrested a man at the airport – Michael Joseph Paul Howells.
In August of 2015, Howells pleaded guilty to charges of mischief for disrupting the operations of WestJet and the airport, and public mischief for causing police to investigate a falsely reported threat.
He also pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a controlled substance.
Howells was scheduled for sentencing in Kelowna at 9:30 Tuesday morning. When he failed to show up, his lawyer withdrew from the case, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Half an hour later – Howells turned up at court but it was too late for sentencing to go begin.
The warrant was withdrawn and his lawyer was back by his side.
The 36-year-old has been scheduled to be sentenced in September.
