Strathcona County RCMP say human remains found near Sherwood Park in early June have been identified as an Edmonton man who has been missing for nearly two years.
Gamteysa Muhamed’s remains were discovered in a rural area east of Sherwood Park on June 8.
Muhamed was 21 years old when he disappeared in September 2014. Muhamed was last seen on Sept. 7, 2014, walking through Edmonton’s Dickinsfield neighbourhood, near 146 Avenue and 72 Street.
At the time, Muhamed’s family said the young man left his home to watch a football game with friends and never returned.
Edmonton homicide detectives took over the missing person investigation in October 2014. Officers said Muhamed was involved in some high-risk activities which may have led to his disappearance.

In June 2015, Muhamed’s family set up a gofundme page for a reward fund and to create awareness.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit from Edmonton has taken the lead in the investigation, in partnership with the Edmonton Police Service and members of the Strathcona County RCMP.
Police are still looking for information in relation to Muhamed’s disappearance. Anyone who may have seen Muhamed in September 2014 is asked to contact the Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
