Montgomery County police in Texas have released dashcam video of a high speed chase involving a 12-year-old girl driving her grandma’s car.
According to KPRC2 News, an NBC affiliate, the girl took her Grandma’s car so she could visit her boyfriend.
Police said that the girl went as fast as 200 kilometres per hour, hitting several vehicles during the high-speed pursuit but no injuries were reported.
The girl’s five-year-old sister was also in the car during the chase.
According to CBS News, the girls’ grandma called 911 thinking they were kidnapped when she discovered the two girls went missing and her car was gone.
Police were able to use the car’s OnStar system to track down the missing vehicle and eventually OnStar was able to shut down the car, ending the chase.
Police arrested the 12-year-old girl and she is being detained in the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center until her court appearance July 5.
Her sister was released back into the care of her grandma.
“The younger girl was terrified. Went right into the arms of our officer when it was over,” Montgomery Police Chief Jim Napolitano told KPRC2 News.
The 12-year-old girl faces a charge of theft of property over $30,000 and could be facing more charges.
