A Calgary man is counting his blessings after bullets were fired into his own home, right above his head Friday evening.

The shots were fired at around 9:30 p.m. into a home on Falworth Way Northeast.

The bullets went through the homeowner’s upper patio French doors, shattering the glass and travelled through his living room wall.

“I was just sitting in my chair and watching a bit of TV when all of a sudden I heard an explosion. Glass came flying all over me. I looked up and I saw the hole and I knew exactly what happened,” Don the homeowner, who did not want to give his last name, said.

“I crawled into my bedroom on my hands and knees and  I told my wife to stay downstairs and I phoned 911.”

The shots ended up in his bathroom cabinet.   No one was injured but two holes remain in the wall, less than a meter above where Don’s head would have been Friday night.

Don said he’s lived in the house for 23 years and has never encountered anything like this before.

“I doubt that the target would’ve been us. We are like 80-year-old people even though we’re not. We don’t go anywhere very much,” Don said.

“It’s actually a fairly good neighbourhood. I’ve never had problems before. We like all of our neighbours. I think it was just a random act.”

Shell casings were found on the street near the home and several people reported seeing at least one vehicle leaving the scene at the time.

“I don’t think it was meant for us. It’s just a random act of some sort. Just nonsensical. We’re just going to go on with life and get my door repaired,” Don said.“We are Christians and I just believe that Christ protects us. I think that’s basically it.”

Police continue to investigate the incident.
