POINTE-CLAIRE – A Dollard-des-Ormeaux resident is furious after his four-month-old dog Maya was given up for adoption.
Niko Goulet-Courtemanche said his mother snapped when his four-month-old dog Maya chewed up her glasses.
The dog — and Goulet-Courtemanche — live with his mother.
She took the dog to the SPCA West and put her up for adoption. Because she is registered as the dog’s owner, they took it.
Before Goulet-Courtemanche could adopt the animal himself, it had been adopted by another family. And now that family wants to keep it, according to the SPCA.
Goulet-Courtemanche is facing an uphill battle. The agency views owners who give dogs up for adoption as being less-than-ideal adoption candidates because they’ve already stated they can’t take care of a pet.
The SPCA says that Goulet-Courtemanche’s only recourse at this point is to try to go to court to get Maya back.
