A balcony fire at a downtown Kelowna condo complex forced residents from their homes Wednesday afternoon.
The fire apparently started just after 2 p.m. on the balcony of a penthouse suite of the Waterscapes condo complex. Witnesses told Global News they saw flames shooting from the deck before a propane tank exploded, shattering the glass on the balcony.
A woman in the apartment at the time put on the fire with an extinguisher.
Fire alarms rang through the building, prompting residents to evacuate. Once outside police and fire crews asked residents to move away from the building’s entrance onto the street below, Sunset Drive.
Fire damage appeared to be contained to the single balcony.
Fire crews and police are still on scene.
