Two young women remain missing from the north Okanagan. Both were active on social media and both were away from their home provinces when they disappeared.

One hasn’t been heard from in weeks, the other in months.

Now police say foul play could help explain why one woman, Ashley Simpson, vanished.

Her mother is hoping tips from the public may bring more answers.

“Somebody knows something or has seen something. Guilt hopefully will make them say something. We pray every day. It is so hard. I would never wish this feeling on another human being,” said Cindy Simpson, reached via Skype in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

Ashley Simpson’s friends and family in Ontario haven’t heard from her since late April.

The 32 year old, originally from St. Catharines, had been working in northern B.C., in a place called Pink Mountain. Her mother says she met a man there and they went to stay in the Salmon Arm area.

“She loves to roam but she will always let you know where she is. When she left Pink Mountain she called me every step of the way [to tell me] where they were. That’s Ashley,” said Cindy Simpson.

However, her family was expecting her back in Ontario for a summer job and her sister’s baby shower.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“She was going to be home for the baby shower May 15. That was a must in her eyes,” said Cindy Simpson.

However, she didn’t make it home for the shower date and Ashley, who her mother describes affectionately as a “selfie queen”, also hasn’t been posting on social media.

Now police say foul play could be involved and their investigation led them to search a property on Yankee Flats Road near Salmon Arm.

Meanwhile, another young woman remains missing from the north Okanagan. Caitlin Potts, 27, hasn’t been heard from since February.

In late April police weren’t ready to say her case was suspicious.

“It is a matter that we are taking very seriously but we aren’t at the point yet to say we believe foul play is involved,” said Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy at a press conference on April 25.

“We are still very actively searching for Caitlin.”

However, a recently released report says Potts’ disappearance is also being investigated by an RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

In March her mother issued a statement asking for help finding Caitlin.

“I miss my daughter, not hearing from her has caused me a lot of worry and grief as any parent can understand,” wrote Priscilla Potts.

“We simply need to hear from her so that we know she is okay.”
