A multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning took the lives of two people and sent three more to hospital.

Police were called to a crash on 88th Avenue at 152nd Street at 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Two people lost their lives in the crash — one person died at the scene and another passed away after being transported to hospital.

Three people are in hospital, one of them in critical condition.

According to Surrey RCMP, a Toyota 4Runner travelling westbound on 88th Ave. was turning left onto 152nd Street when it was struck on the passenger side by a Hyundai heading eastbound. The Hyundai then struck another vehicle that was travelling westbound on 88th Ave.

There’s no word yet on whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Friends and family of two men killed in the crash have set up a memorial in their honour.

Sunday morning’s crash follows an already dangerous weekend on Metro Vancouver roads.

On Saturday, Surrey RCMP tracked down a badly-damaged car that allegedly hit a street light, struck another vehicle and then drove away. Police said they received several reports of a badly-damaged car heading east on 60th Avenue, possibly missing a front tire and shooting sparks as it travelled down the road.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in Saturday’s crash.

On Friday night, a two-car collision at 227th Street and the Haney Bypass in Maple Ridge sent seven people to hospital. Police continue to investigate the cause of that crash.
