Wildfire burning just west of High Level, Alta.

A wildfire alert for the town of High Level was dropped just before 8 p.m. Wednesday after officials said fire crews had brought a wildfire burning near the community under control.

Fire crews along with two helicopters were battling a wildfire just west of High Level Wednesday evening.

An emergency alert was issued to ask people to avoid the wetland area between the northern Alberta town and the landfill where the blaze is burning.

Area residents were also being asked to listen to the instructions of local authorities although at 7 p.m. Wednesday, officials said there was no threat to the town.

A dozer crew was put on standby and residents were being advised of possible smoke in the area.
