Tuberculosis tests planned at James L. Alexander School in Saskatoon

A confirmed case of tuberculosis at a Saskatoon elementary school will result in testing for 70 people, according to the Saskatoon Health Region. Six are teachers at James L. Alexander School, while 64 are students.

Parents learned about the situation at James L. Alexander last Wednesday. It’s believed the chances of the disease spreading at the school are low.

Symptoms of tuberculosis include coughing, chest pain, fatigue and fever. The airborne illness is typically treatable and curable and comes in multiple strains.

Testing is scheduled for May 31 to June 2 at the elementary school.

No information about the patient has been released.
