West Kelowna Warriors earn first-ever win at RBC Cup – May 15, 2016

LLOYDMINSTER — It’s been the longest post-season stretch for the Warriors in team history and their streak continued as West Kelowna earned its first-ever win at the RBC Cup in Lloydminster on Saturday.

The Warriors defeated the host team, the Lloydminster Bobcats 5-2 in their first game in the national championship.

Jonathan Desbiens got the Warriors on the scoreboard first early into the game. Not long after, Jake LeBrun netted another one for West Kelowna, extending the lead to 2-0, which was the score going into the second period.

Early into the second, Desbiens scored again and there was another goal pair not long after with Jake LeBrun adding his second goal of the game at 12:58 into the second period, making it 4-0 for the Warriors.

Putting away the Warriors’ fifth goal of the game was Liam Blackburn with a little over five minutes left in the period, making it 5-0 Warriors.

The Bobcats snuck one past Keelan Williams, making it 5-1 West Kelowna.

With just under eight minutes left to play in the third period, the Bobcats scored again to make it 5-2 West Kelowna.

The Warriors take on the Brooks Bandits Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
