REGINA – While the prime minister was in Fort Qu’Appelle on Tuesday, federal opposition leader Rona Ambrose toured the Evraz steel mill in Regina.
Outside the mill, she said there’s growing concern among steel workers when it comes to pipelines and job security.
“They need to have that level of certainty.”
Ambrose urged Trudeau to “think about the uncertain environment he created around the pipeline approval process” while he visited Saskatchewan.

Meanwhile, Regina Lewvan NDP MP Erin Weir also voiced concerns for local steelworkers.
Instead of pipelines, he focused on federal changes to employment insurance benefits, which don’t include southern Saskatchewan.
He sided with Ambrose on her support for Canadian steel but noted the Conservatives haven’t always felt that way.
“I see the biggest threat to steel production in Regina is the dumping of Chinese steel into the Canadian market,” said Weir.
“Really it was the former Conservative government that allowed that to happen.”
