They’re words that many a father of a girl dreads: “I want a boyfriend.”
John Tierney from Blantyre, Scotland faced this with his four-year-old daughter Grace on Sunday and his response has gone viral.
He told the Evening Times that Grace waved to two boys who were going past them on their scooters. Tierney told her not to wave at the boys “because they’re smelly” and that sparked a debate about whether she could have a boyfriend.
“Daddy will break his legs,” Tierney says in the video.
He takes it a step further to suggest he’ll kidnap and hold hostage the father of Grace’s future boyfriend.
“No!” she protests. “Listen, I want a boyfriend. If I want a boyfriend, I’m getting a boyfriend.”
Tierney then says her future is in a convent.
“You’re going to work for Jesus,” he says pulling out his crucifix necklace.
The video of the playful banter between father and daughter has gone viral in the U.K. with fellow dads praising Tierney.
