WINNIPEG – An unusual business is hoping to land a bulls-eye in Winnipeg.
Bad Axe Throwing is opening up its newest venue in the St. James area.
“Axe throwing is something that’s a little bit different. Everyone’s been bowling, you’ve done the crazy thing like laser tag. Axe throwing is something that’s so simple it becomes addictive,” said Melanie Williamson with Bad Axe Throwing, whose official title is Queen of Axes.
The company has already opened axe throwing arenas in eight other Canadian cities, starting in Toronto.
“There’s definitely a Canadian sub culture to axe throwing. Its wearing plaid and holding that hardware in your hand,” said Williamson.
Axe throwing has grown in popularity over the last several years. Its simplicity could be a factor.
“Anyone can pick it up. It’s not a hard game but it is a fun game,” said Daniel Pohl, an event host at Bad Axe Throwing.
The arena caters to group outings like corporate events and birthday parties but is also starting a league in the coming weeks.
