So, Angus B. MacDonald of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia is dead. He “bought the farm” and “bit the dust,” according to his obituary – which he wrote too.

Apparently MacDonald had a sense of humour and before his death; the father of three penned a blunt, yet amusing obituary.

“So, the world doesn’t have Angus MacDonald to kick around anymore,” his obit starts off. “I’m gone! The devil finally called my name.”

MacDonald passed away on March 25, and his obit was printed last week in the Cape Breton Post and online.

“So anyway, I think I was a pretty nice guy, despite being a former punk and despite what some people would say about me,” MacDonald wrote. “What did they know about me anyway?”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The man paid tribute to his family, the hospitals who helped him, and his beloved dead dog Scarlett.

“I loved my family and cared for them through good times and bad; I did my best,” the man wrote. “I had some serious health problems the last few years, but survived them (up till now anyway) with the help of my wife, Brenda; my granddaughter, Nicole; my sweetheart little dog, Scarlett, and my rescue kitten, Dolly.”

MacDonald described himself as a very private person and wrote he didn’t want a funeral because it’s a lot of money and he didn’t want “people gawking” at him.

“So instead of going to see the great creator, I will be going to see the great cremater,” MacDonald wrote.

Condolences poured in online, even from people the man never met.

“Did not know this guy but feel I have to comment. This is one of the best obits I have read in a long time,” wrote a commenter. “May you rest in peace Angus Brian MacDonald.”

“I missed out by not knowing this cat! What a guy! God Speed, Angus MacDonald,” commented Jacqueline Carey.

“RIP Mr. MacDonald, it sounds to me like you had it all figured out, sincere condolences to your family and friends,” Ann Elizabeth MacDonald wrote.

As for MacDonald, he’s off to spend time with his dog Scarlett, who he called a “total destresser.”

“So I guess if there’s a place in the after-life where little dogs and old dawgs go, then that’s where you’ll find me and Scarlett,” MacDonald wrote.

“Happy trails! Love Angus B. MacDonald.”
