VERNON, B.C. — Traffic was at a standstill for the better part of an hour Thursday night on Highway 97 just south of Vernon, as fire crews extinguished a car fire.
According to fire crews, the motorist was driving near the Okanagan College campus noticed smoke coming from under the hood. When he pulled over and got out of the vehicle to investigate, the car burst into flames.
The man and his passenger were both uninjured.
Fire crews had to shut down Highway 97 southbound for about a half hour while they dealt with the incident.
Crews believe the fire was caused by a mechanical problem with the car.
