CALGARY – Voters living in the electoral district of Calgary-Greenway will be heading to the polls on March 22.
The candidate who wins the byelection will replace former Conservative MLA Manmeet Bhullar, who was killed in late November after helping a fellow driver on the QEII Highway.
Riding profile:
Voters in the riding have elected Conservatives since the 1970s.
Calgary-Greenway is located on the eastern edge of the city, and was created in 2010’s boundary redistribution from parts of Calgary-Cross, Calgary-McCall and Calgary-Montrose.

Prab Gill
Prab Gill has served as a member of two provincial government boards and runs a business in the oilfield construction industry.
As such, Gill said he “understands the importance of the oil and gas sector on our provincial economy.”
Gill has lived in Calgary for 16 years. He has a wife and two children.
Roop Rai
Roop Rai is a former radio producer and host who graduated from the University of Calgary.
She previously worked as a constituency manager for Calgary-McCall MLA and Minister of Human Services Irfan Sabir.

Rai describes herself as a “dedicated proponent for a strong public education system” and cites her family as her source for inspiration.
Devinder Toor
Devunder Toor is a husband, father, small business owner and Calgarian who has lived in the city for over 22 years.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and “has spent the past several years advocating for more efficient government and the elimination of red-tape,” according to the Wildrose.
Khalil Karbani
Khalil Karbani is a businessman who moved to Canada in 2001 with his wife and children.
He previously volunteered with the Muslim Council of Calgary where he was the chair of events and communications, and was also involved in the Airport Trail Access Committee.
He and his siblings started a charity in the United Kingdom which, according to his website, helps widows and underprivileged communities in India, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan.
Thana Boonlert
Thana Boonlert is a graduate of the University of Guelph who works as an environmental engineer with a local company which specializes in storm-water management and wetland designs.
He describes himself as being “passionate about politics and environment” from a young age.
Boonlert is a member of the Calgary Climate Action Network and an ambassador for the Canadian Geothermal Energy Association.
