David Marit of the Sask. Party has won the Wood River riding with 6,039 votes beating out the NDP’s Brenda Shenher who got 981 votes.
Summary: With longtime MLA Yogi Huyghebaert retiring, voters in Wood River will elect a new representative this election.
Boundaries: A large riding along Saskatchewan’s southern border, Wood River roughly spans the area from Bracken and Coronach to the south, extending as far north to the west as Swift Current, and as far north to the east as Mossbank and Ormiston. The riding’s largest community is Assiniboia, but also includes Ponteix, Gravelbourg and Mossbank.
Last Election: Huyghebaert defeated NDP candidate Randy Gaudry by over 4300 votes, 82-14 per cent – one of the largest margins in the province.
History: The riding has been held by Huyghebaert since 2000. Prior to that, it was held by Glen McPherson as a NDP representative from 1991 to 1995, and as a Liberal from 1995 to 2000.
