Drivers heading to the Okanagan or beyond this Family Day weekend may need to be prepared for treacherous road conditions.

A snowfall warning has been issued for the Coquihalla Highway and the region between Hope and Merritt with up to 20 centimetres of snow expected Saturday.

The warning comes after a cold, snowy night slowed traffic and caused long truck lineups on the highway.

Elsewhere, an overnight wind storm knocked out power in several areas around Metro Vancouver and the Gulf Islands.

BC Hydro is reporting outages in more than 30 areas between Kent in the Fraser Valley all the way up to the Sunshine Coast. Seven areas on Vancouver Island are affected. BC Hydro says crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

BC Ferries is warning travellers to prepare for heavy traffic and possible long wait times.
