Three cargo-handling employees from Halifax Stanfield International Aiport are facing theft charges after RCMP allege they stole from passenger luggage last month.
The Mounties arrested the employees Monday following an investigation into allegations they were searching through checked bags that had been loaded onto a plane on Jan. 27.
A 23-year-old man is facing charges of theft and possession of stolen property, while another 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old man are both facing theft charges.
“Theft from luggage on any aircraft is very concerning,” Cpl. Andrew Joyce said in a news release. “We encourage travellers to always lock their luggage but be sure the key is easily accessible in the event you are asked to open your suitcase for security reasons.”
The suspects were released and will appear in court on March 15.
RCMP say the investigation will likely lead to further arrests and charges.
