Will and Kate reach out to Slave Lake, again

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have not forgotten the people of Slave Lake, Alta., one year after wildfires destroyed one-third of the town.

William and Catherine have sent a letter to the community expressing their greetings and best wishes.

The royal couple toured the devastated town last July.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

In their letter, the royals note the fortitude and unquenchable spirit of people in Slave Lake and hope the town’s recovery is progressing well.

“One year on from the disastrous fire that ravaged your town, Catherine and I send you, the people of Slave Lake, our heartfelt best wishes, in the hope and knowledge that through your fortitude and unquenchable spirit the recovery of your beautiful town is progressing well,” William wrote. “We both remember with such admiration the manner in which this great challenge of nature was met by the people of Slave Lake.”
