MONTREAL – It’s that time of year again for car enthusiasts to collectively drool over the spectacular 2016 models presenting themselves at the Montreal International Auto Show.

Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, McLaren and Tesla are just a few of the luxury cars at the show, but it’s the new Pagani Huayra that’s stealing the spotlight with its unique Italian design, monster V12 engine and $2.2 million price tag.

This year’s show features more than 500 models – but it’s not just about the most expensive luxury cars.

Consumer trends are shifting towards a more environmentally friendly approach to transport.

Electric vehicles are starting to take the forefront, offering not only an environmental impact, but an economic one as well.

The city has established 16 vehicle charging stations around Palais des congrès – just the start of a goal to have 1,000 of them across the city by 2020.

CAA-Quebec has set up a fleet of electric vehicles that show-goers can test drive free of charge, including the new Chevrolet Volt, BMW i3 and Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid.

Tesla, along with several other automakers, are trying to convert gear heads by showing that you can still get a high performance sports car without a gas-guzzling engine.

Among the changes to the 2016 model year, automakers are aiming towards more ergonomic designs and searching for ways to integrate more technology into their vehicles.

These features are an ever-growing attraction, especially for families.

Resistive touch screens are being replaced with capacitive ones – the same as smartphones and tablets.

Automakers are also integrating more hands-free features to keep drivers’ eyes on the road while also being able to access their multimedia content and phone features.

This year’s auto show promises to have something for everyone – and if electric vehicles or sports cars aren’t your thing, there will also be a whole section dedicated to unique customized vehicles.

The 48th Montreal International Auto Show runs from Jan. 15 to 24 at Palais des congrès.
