MONTREAL – The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) have arrested four people in connection with an alleged daycare fraud scheme on the South Shore of Montreal.
It’s purported that the four suspects defrauded the province’s subsidized daycare program of an estimated $15 million by circumventing regulations that forbid members of the same family from owning more than five subsidized private daycares or having more than 300 places.
The four were arrested in Chambly, Greenfield Park and St-Hubert after a 2014 investigation launched by the SQ in association with Quebec’s Ministry of Families.
The suspects are expected to appear in Longueuil court Wednesday afternoon to face charges of fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.
