15-year-old charged in North Central homicide

REGINA – A 15-year-old boy has been charged with second degree murder after a 48-year-old man was found dead in North Central in October.

He is also facing charges in connection to a firearms discharge and an arson and theft that occurred on the same night.

The body of 48-year-old Matthew John Wells was discovered on Oct. 22 in the 1500 block of Robinson Street, after Regina police responded to a report of an injured person.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. that same night, police were also called to the 2200 block of Robinson Street after reports of shots fired in an apartment residence. No one was injured, but the balcony doors were shattered.

That same night, police also dealt with an arson and theft of vehicle, which they now believe to be connected to the other incidents.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice, is charged with Second Degree Murder, Disguise with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence, Being an Occupant in a Motor Vehicle , Knowing There was a Firearm Present, Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime, two charges of Breach of a Firearms Prohibition, Discharge a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm in a Reckless Manner, Theft under $5,000 and Arson Causing Damage to Property.

He will make his first court appearance in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 24.

Police are continuing to investigate the homicide, firearms discharge, arson and theft.
