EDMONTON – A 33-year-old Alberta man has been charged with child sex tourism in connection with an underage girl in Ireland.

Police allege Jashua Robert Tremblay of Fort McMurrary travelled to Ireland twice to have sex with a girl he met on the internet. The alleged offences date back to late 2013 when the girl was 13 years old.

Law enforcement in Ireland first opened the investigation into Tremblay in 2013. The RCMP National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre in Ottawa became involved in February 2014 and referred the file to the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams.

ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit arrested Tremblay on Dec. 9 and charged him with luring, child sex tourism and two counts of sexual interference.

This is the first time ALERT has laid charges under child sex tourism, which was added to the Canadian Criminal Code in 1997.
