Search resumes in Saskatoon for man who may have jumped from bridge

SASKATOON – A search for a person who may have jumped off a bridge and into the river has resumed. Saskatoon police and fire department water rescue members are coordinating search efforts on the South Saskatchewan River.

Police received a phone call around 12:30 p.m. CT Wednesday from a man in distress on the Broadway Bridge. When officers arrived, they were unable to locate the man but recovered a backpack.

Members of the water rescue team searched the river throughout the afternoon before calling off the search at 5 p.m.

No trace of anyone was found.

Police believe the man may be Jordan Charles Walker, 21.

The search resumed Thursday morning, with fire crews using sonar equipment to capture images from the river bottom. Officials hope the information gathered will help identify areas of interest for divers to investigate.

Crews are expected to be on the river for most of the day or until the missing person is located.

Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of Walker, or who may have been on or near the Broadway Bridge around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to contact them at 306-975-8300.
