Man found clinging to ice in Red River

Emergency crews pull a man out of the Red River. Global News

WINNIPEG – A river rescue Monday afternoon is a reminder to stay away from open water this time of year.

A 26 year old man was pulled from the Red River behind St. Boniface Hospital around 3:30 p.m.

When emergency crews arrived, he was clinging to the edge of the ice.

It is unclear how he ended up in the water, however thin ice with a hole in it could be seen nearby.

The man was conscious as he was taken to hospital.
