WINNIPEG — When the Edmonton Eskimos beat the Ottawa Redblacks 26-20 in the 103rd Grey Cup presented by Shaw, it not only gave the Alberta capital its first CFL championship title in ten years but also made football history in Manitoba.

Winnipeggers Don Oramasionwu and Eddie Steele became the first Manitoba Bisons alumni to win a Vanier Cup and Grey Cup following Sunday’s victory at Investors Group Field. The defensive linemen were both part of the Herd’s 2007 CIS championship team. They also played high school football together with the Kelvin Clippers.

Oramasionwu on the other hand had a single tackle against Ottawa to help Edmonton win its 14th Grey Cup in franchise history. The 29-year-old earned CIS Second Team All-Canadian and Canada West All-Star nods in 2008 following what was his best statistical university season. Steele finished that year third on the team with 36 total tackles. He was picked 39th overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2008 CFL Draft.

Former Bison and RedBlacks rookie running back Kienan Lafrance also played in the 103rd Grey Cup game.
