Police in Port Moody say the alleged abduction of a teen in Port Moody earlier this month is unfounded, following an investigation.
A 14-year-old girl told police she was walking home alone in the 1300-block of David Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. on Nov.17 when she was allegedly grabbed and pulled into a van.
She said she was kept in the van for 90 minutes and then dropped off in the 3000-block of Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam. She was unharmed and none of her items was stolen.
Port Moody Police are now satisfied “there is no existing or known threat to the safety of students as they travel to and from schools in our community.”
In a release, police said:
“Police are obligated to conduct full and vigorous investigations in response to reported threats to public safety, especially when they concern some of the most vulnerable persons in our community, such as children. However, it is also essential the public is made aware when the reported threat no longer exists in order to reduce any potential anxiety or fear it may have caused.
The Port Moody Police will be consulting with Crown Counsel on the outcome of our investigation and our Victim Services Unit will continue to provide support to those persons who may have been affected.”
