TORONTO — Marco Estrada says he might have got a longer deal on the open market, but he wanted to come back to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 32-year-old right-hander spoke publicly today for the first time since agreeing to a two-year deal worth US$26 million last week.

Estrada appeared in 34 games with the Blue Jays last season and made a career-high 28 starts.

He posted a career-best 3.13 earned-run average and had 13 wins and 131 strikeouts.

Estrada also excelled in the playoffs, picking up two victories in must-win games.

The Blue Jays acquired Estrada last year from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for first baseman Adam Lind.
