WINNIPEG — Environment Canada extended the Special Weather Statement for Manitoba that was first released Monday.
Snow and strong winds are on the way for Manitoba Wednesday afternoon through Thursday.
Wednesday in southern Manitoba, precipitation will be light and winds will begin to get stronger. Wednesday evening, rain will change to snow and strong winds out of the Northwest will likely create some snow squalls in the lee of Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg. Blowing snow coming off the lakes will reduce visibility at times.
In central and northern Manitoba heavier snow will be more of a factor. General snowfall amounts will be between 5 and 15 cm. The highest accumulations will likely be near Gillam but Gillam, Thompson, Norway House could all see between 10 and 15 cm.
Winds will also be quite strong. The strongest winds are expected along the Hudson Bay coastline where wind gusts up to 90 km/h are possible Thursday.
