New block of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ tickets on sale Tuesday

Star Wars fans will get a second chance to scoop up tickets for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening weekend as a second batch of tickets go on sale Tuesday.

An “unprecedented demand” has prompted Cineplex to release a second block of tickets for Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening weekend.

“This is the highest demand for advance tickets that we’ve seen in our history for any opening weekend,” said Pat Marshall of Cineplex Entertainment.

Tickets for shows at 115 theatres across Canada will be available at theatre box offices and online at Cineplex.com starting at 3 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Theatre chains in the U.S. have banned masks, face paint and fake weapons, including lightsabers from screenings of the new film. AMC Theatres said lightsabers are permitted as long as they can be turned off during the showing of the film.

Canadians can expect similar restrictions when attending the new Star Wars flick.

“We encourage our guests to enhance their movie-going experience by wearing costumes if they choose, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens is no exception,” Sarah Van Lange, director of communications at Cineplex, said in an email. “That said, we have had a policy in place for many years that prohibits our guests from wearing masks in our theatres.”

“Any extraneous items like toys would be reviewed on an individual basis,” Van Lange added.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18.
