DRUMMOND, NB – New Brunswick believe 43-year-old Gilbert Thériault is connected to the kidnapping of a 62-year-old man that happened on Monday in Drummond Local Service District, and have issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.
The victim made it to safety and suffered minor injuries and didn’t need medical attention.
Thériault has been charged with using a firearm to kidnap the victim, using a firearm in the commission of an offense, uttering a death threat, injuring the victim’s dog and extortion.
Thériault is described as 5’6″ weighing about 120 lbs. He has a tattoo of an eagle on his right bicep.
Police responded to a report of a 62-year-old man being forced to leave his home in Drummond Local Service District by two men at about 4:30 on Monday.
The victim was put in the trunk of a car and driven approximately 10 kilometres.
After the vehicle came to a stop on a dirt road, the suspects fled leaving the victim in the trunk. He was able to get out and find help.
The investigation has led police to believe one of the suspects was at a residence on Undine Road. A perimeter was established, but after there was no contact made with the suspect, police searched the residence and determined the suspect was not in the home or anywhere else on the property.
Anyone who sees Thériault is urged not to approach him, but instead to call 9-1-1.
The second suspect in connection with the kidnapping, a 37-year old man from Nova Scotia, was arrested in Halifax on Thursday and remains in custody.
