Kindersley, Sask. RCMP shame motorists on Facebook

The law requires drivers to pull over and stop for emergency vehicles. Kindersley, Sask. RCMP have taken to Facebook to call out drivers who didn’t do just that Tuesday morning.

According to the post, a cruiser was heading north on Highway 21 between Kindersley and Kerrobert with lights and sirens for an emergency call.

“Not one vehicle on the highway pulled to the side of the road and stopped to let our officer through,” stated the post.

Mounties said some vehicles did slow down but others moved to the shoulder while maintaining highway speeds.

“This can be a dangerous situation for yourself and other drivers around you,” continued the post.

“Pull over and stop. We need to get to our call safely and quickly. Move over.”

Under Saskatchewan’s Traffic Safety Act, motorists are required to bring their vehicle to an immediate stop when an emergency vehicle, using flashing lights or sirens, approaches from any direction.

Drivers are required to pull their vehicle over as near as possible to the right curb or the edge of the roadway.

Failure to do so can result in a $125.00 fine.
