SASKATOON – Fire prevention week has launched in Saskatoon. This year’s theme is “hear the beep where you sleep.”
The Saskatoon Fire Department is urging people to make sure every bedroom has a working smoke alarm.

An event on Sunday illustrated just how quickly a fire can spread, while highlighting the importance of having an alarm and escape plan.
“This theme advocates that you have a working smoke alarm in every sleeping room,” said Dave Bykowy, who is the assistant chief of communications and public relations for the fire department.
“Just because of the vulnerability when a person is sleeping, the whole idea of smoke alarms is to wake you up.”
As part of fire prevention week, the Saskatoon Fire Department is offering fire truck tours between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. local time on the following dates at these stations:
- Oct. 5: Fire Station No. 3 – 1906 York Ave.
- Oct. 6: Fire Station No. 5 – 421 Central Ave.
- Oct. 7: Fire Station No. 9 – 870 Attridge Dr.
- Oct. 8: Fire Station No. 8 – 271 Slimmon Rd.
