Man sent to hospital after rollover accident near Kelowna

NEAR KELOWNA — Kelowna RCMP say alcohol may be a factor in a single-vehicle rollover accident in Joe Rich that sent one man to hospital Friday morning.

It happened on Highway 33 near Cardinal Creek Road around 11:20 a.m.

Joe Rich Fire Chief Ben Wasyliuk says given how badly damaged the vehicle is and how dangerous that stretch of road is, it’s lucky the man made it out of the vehicle okay.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“There are a lot of stretches along here where the banks drop off sharply, there’s not alot of room for error once you do get out onto the shoulder,” says Wasyliuk. “In this case he wasn’t able to correct and obviously it didn’t turn out well.”

Wasyliuk says the single-occupant of the vehicle, a man in his mid-50’s, was already out of the vehicle when crews arrived.
