Worst is over for NB but weather warnings still in effect for NS

HALIFAX – Environment Canada has called off its rainfall warning for P-E-I as a storm moves through the Maritime region, dumping rain on Nova Scotia.

There are reports of significant damage to private homes in New Brunswick after more than 160 millimetres of rain fell on some areas.

The province’s Emergency Measures Organization says the overnight downpour caused localized flooding, infrastructure damage and road closures.

It says most roads are swamped and caution is urged for drivers particularly in central and southern regions.

Environment Canada says 168 millimetres of rain was reported at Kouchibouguac (KOO’-shuh-buh-gwak).

Weather warnings remain in effect for much of Nova Scotia and western Newfoundland.

One of five cruise ships expected to dock in Halifax today has decided to skip the port city because of the nasty weather.

A spokesman for the Halifax Port Authority says the other four still plan to make a day of it, including the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner.

Lane Farguson says the weather isn’t ideal, but cruise passengers to the Maritimes are typically prepared for changeable weather.
