88-year-old woman dies after Sherwood Park crash

EDMONTON – An elderly woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision Thursday morning in Sherwood Park.

It happened at the intersection of Wye Road and Estate Drive at 11 a.m.

The 88-year-old woman was driving a Ford Taurus and was trying to turn west onto Wye Road when her vehicle was hit by an oncoming GMC truck.

The woman later died of her injuries in hospital. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Strathcona RCMP are not releasing the name of the deceased.

Another two-vehicle collision happened Thursday morning near Ponoka. That crash left one driver in critical condition.

The collision happened on Highway 2A south of town, when a Ford Escape crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming SUV.

The driver of the Ford Escape was taken to hospital by STARS air ambulance in critical condition. The two occupants of the SUV were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors. Charges are pending.
